GM Lake Orion Assembly Plant, Michigan

A large (4,300,000 square foot) GM assembly plant that currently makes the Chevy Bolt compact electric car. The plant opened in 1983, and made Chevy Malibu’s, Pontiac Bonneville’s, Buick Riviera’s, Cadillac DeVille’s, Oldsmobile 88’s, and others. Around 2010 it was retooled to make subcompacts, one of the only domestic auto plants to do so (most GM vehicles in this class are made in Mexico or South Korea).
