GM Orion Assembly Plant, Michigan
This large (4,300,000 square foot) plant has opened in 1983, to make Malibus, Buicks, and Oldsmobiles. It closed in 2009, when GM went bankrupt and was bailed out by the federal government. It reopened in 2011, and makes Chevy Sonics and Bolts. It is one of less than a dozen vehicle assembly plants operated by GM in the USA. Another dozen or so have been shuttered over the years.
