Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas

The runways of Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo are used for parking vehicles, or not at all anymore, as the base’s mission is now primarily intelligence training. A few thousand students are trained annually in cryptology, linguistics, and intelligence imagery. Goodfellow is the home of the Air Force's firefighters school, too, and a large pad in the middle of the former runway complex is full of training props and aircraft, now landlocked here. Goodfellow was the base for operating the PAVE PAWS early-warning and space tracking station at the Eldorado Air Force Station, 35 miles south, until it closed a few years ago.
