Granite Mountain Speculator Mine Memorial, Montana

The memorial to an accident in 1917, when 168 miners were trapped in a fire in a mine shaft half a mile beneath the surface, and died. The incident caused major protests and strikes, and led to the development of the Metal Mine Worker’s Union.
