Havensight Cruise Ship Dock
The Havensight Cruise Ship Dock is the larger of two cruise ship docks at the port of the city of Charlotte Amalie, the capital city of the US Virgin Islands. Up to 500 cruise ships come to the port every year, bringing more than a million tourists to the island every year. The port is on St. Thomas, the most visited of the three primary islands that make up the territory of the US Virgin Islands, one of five official occupied territories of the USA. Tourism is the territory’s major industry, with resorts scattered all over the shores, especially on St. Thomas, and St. John, just a couple of miles east of St. Thomas. The United States purchased the islands, then known as the Danish West Indies, from Denmark for $25 million, in 1917, at the onset of World War One.
