Houlton Border Crossing, Maine
Image
The Houlton Border Crossing is the north end of Interstate 95, the principal Interstate of the East Coast, extending from here south to Florida. When the Interstate opened in the 1970s, the old two-lane highway was closed, its traffic diverted onto the Interstate, with its new and larger Port of Entry. The road surface at the old crossing has a mound of dirt piled on the actual borderline. The old port of entry building is still there, with the old furniture still inside, forty years later.
