Hungry Horse Dam, Montana
The Bureau of Reclamation built this dam from 1949 to 1953 for hydro power and flood control. At the time it was completed it was the third largest and second highest concrete dam in the world (564 feet). It is located in the mountains above Kalispell, and 15 miles from Glacier Park, on the South Fork of the Flathead River, a tributary to the Columbia River. One of the early big users of the power is a nearby aluminum plant, now closed.
