IBM Rochester, Minnesota

A large, early computer plant, especially for the Midwest, built at a time when IBM was still mostly located in upstate New York. The first structure here was designed by Eero Saarinen, in 1955. The facility grew into a 3.1 million square-foot, mile-long campus, with a peak of more than 8,000 workers. It produced large business computers such as the AS/400, and the IBM 5110 personal computer, and was involved in supercomputer research. In 2018 the facility was sold to the Industrial Realty Group of Los Angeles, to be redeveloped as the Rochester Technology Campus.
