Imperial Dunes Plank Road, California

A five mile long, one-lane wooden roadway which was constructed in 1915 across the Imperial Sand Dunes, west of Yuma, and was in service as the only means of traversing the loose sand of the area for about ten years. Fragments of the old road are still visible in the sand today, and a large section has been reassembled and preserved at its original location for display purposes.
