Intel Ronler Acres Campus, Oregon

One of computer-chip maker Intel’s largest sites is known as the Ronler Acres Campus, in Hillsboro, one of three Intel campuses in the area (the other two are Jones Farm and Hawthorn Farm). Intel employs more than 16,000 people in the region, more than anywhere else the company operates. Hillsboro is the heart of Oregon’s “Silicon Forest,” a high-tech region that includes Beaverton and other Washington County communities in the sprawl west of Portland. Tektronix was the first major high tech company in the area, moving from downtown Portland to Beaverton in 1951. In addition to Intel, many computer systems companies, like Oracle, later established a major presence here, and a few major tech companies are headquartered here, including Planar Systems, Salesforce, and Radisys, some of which are among the dozens of companies spun out of Tektronix, ESI, Intel, and other local tech pioneers. A high level of connectivity helps maintain and attract high-tech to the region, and now three transpacific fiber optic cables terminate here, which has lead to a boom in local datacenters too.
