Iridium Satellite Station, Arizona
The constellation of small low earth orbit satellites that comprise the Iridium satellite phone network communicate with this earth station in Chandler, Arizona. Iridium was a major satellite phone company, and operated 66 of its own satellites to provide global phone service. The company’s Network Operations Center is in Ashburn, Virginia. This facility is located in a major data tech area, with several data centers and aerospace firms. This is a new location for Iridium, as the original antenna facility was larger, and was located a few blocks south. That site has been redeveloped into a data center by another company.
