Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, Alabama
Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant is located on an 1,850-acre site, adjacent to the Chattahoochee River from which it draws its cooling water. It is home to two pressurized water reactors, whose combined output capacity is around 1,800MW. The plant is owned by Alabama Power, but operated by Southern Nuclear. Unit 1's operating license was granted in 1977, while Unit 2's operating license was granted in 1981. The Wildlife Habitat Council has designated the plant a certified wildlife habitat since 1992.
