Kelly Field, Texas

Kelly Field is one of four original Air Force bases in the San Antonio area, and was a major maintenance center for the Air Force. Kelly was once home to the San Antonio Air Logistics Center, one of five Air Force maintenance and distribution centers in the country, and the primary maintenance depot for the C-5, C-17, and several other aircraft, as well as equipment systems, including the Air Force's nuclear weapons systems. Before a 2001 realignment, Kelly employed over 14,000 people. After realignment, both the runway as well as some land west of it, were rechristened Kelly Field Annex, and placed under the control of adjacent Lackland Air Force Base. After extensive environmental remediation, some of the remaining base has been transformed into the Port San Antonio business park.
