La Cygne Power Plant, Kansas

La Cygne Power Plant is adjacent to 2,600-acre Lake La Cygne, from which it draws its cooling water. The plant is home to two coal-fired units, whose combined output capacity is 1,578MW. Unit 1 has an output capacity of 893MW, while Unit 2 has an output capacity of 685MW. Units 1 and 2 became operational in 1973 and 1977 respectively. Wyoming's Powder River Basin is the source of the bulk of the plant's coal.
