Lake Tapps, Washington

Lake Tapps was created by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) in 1911, as a storage reservoir for a hydroelectric power plant. In 2004, power production operations ceased. In 2009, PSE sold Lake Tapps to the Cascade Water Alliance, a municipal entity comprised of five cities and two water districts. Over 1,600 houses have been built in a continuous ring around the shore, and at various times during the year, homeowners have had to contend with varying lake levels, until an agreement was reached with Cascade to guarantee maximum recreational lake levels during the summer months.
