Limestone Power Plant, Texas

Limestone Power Plant is located in Jewett, Texas, just east of Lake Limestone, the source of its cooling water. The plant is home to two coal-fired units, whose net output capacity is around 1,700MW.. Units 1 and 2 became operational in 1985 and 1986 respectively. The plant is owned by NRG Energy. It is surrounded by gas wells, and is connected to a chain of coal strip mines used to fuel the plant. In 2016, NRG Energy announced that it would no longer buy lower grade lignite coal from the local Westmoreland Coal Company, replacing it instead with a higher grade of coal from Wyoming's Powder River Basin.
