Lincoln Pulp and Paper Mill, Maine

The first pulp and paper mill in downtown Lincoln opened in 1882. It changed owners many times, and eventually became Lincoln Paper and Tissue, specializing in deep-dyed tissue, used to make colored party streamers, paper tablecloths, and napkins. The plant became the largest producer of this material in the country for a period. The plant closed in 2015, after the company filed for bankruptcy, following a boiler explosion in 2013 that crippled the plant for a period.
