The La Porte Complex of Lyondell covers 540 acres, bisected by Miller Cut-off Road, in the Battleground Industrial District, near the San Jacinto Monument. The complex consists of two plants, each with port access, operated by separate subsidiaries of Lyondell before Lyondell's acquisition by the Dutch chemical conglomerate Basell in 2007. Equistar Chemical, on one side of the road produces base chemicals for the type of plastic used in milk crates, plastic bags, bread trays, and household chemical bottles. Millennium Chemicals, on the other side, makes acetic acid (used in foods), and vinyl acetate, used in adhesives and paints.
