Marathon Detroit Refinery, Michigan

Marathon Petroleum Company operates Michigan’s only oil refinery, located next to the Rouge River, and the famous old Ford River Rouge Plant. It has a capacity of 140,000 barrels per day, making it a medium sized facility when compared to the other 135 or so refineries in the USA. The plant makes gasoline, asphalt, coke (for steel plants), propane, propylene, and other distillates. It is supplied with oil including heavy sour crude from Canadian tar sands. Marathon now has 16 refineries, including the largest in the USA at Texas City, making it the largest refiner in the country.
