MCity Test Site, Michigan
MCity claims to have been the first purpose-built autonomous vehicle proving ground in the country, which is likely so. The site covers 32 acres at the University of Michigan’s North Campus Research Complex, and has more than 16 acres of roads and other traffic-related structures, and is full of monitoring systems. It is used to model a variety of urban and suburban roadways and road environments, with the types of obstacles and interactions that any driverless vehicle might encounter. Adjacent to MCity is the Michigan Traffic Laboratory, a research facility for studying and developing new technologies in an evolving vehicular world.
