Michigan Central Railroad Building, Michigan
The Michigan Central Railroad Building is one of the best known monuments of ruins of Detroit. It was a busy rail station, the main one for the city, built in 1914, with a 15 story office tower above it, and operational until 1988. After that, it was completely abandoned, and became a destination for urban explorers, squatters, graffiti art, parties, and members of the general public, with a sense of adventure. The windows were all shattered over the years, and the building was likely to become structurally compromised, while redevelopment plans came and went. In 2018 it was purchased by the Ford Motor Company, which plans to transform it into a mixed use building as part of its Corktown campus redevelopment project.
