Michigan Iron Industry Museum, Michigan

A museum of the local industry, iron, which created underground mines and pits in the region. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan was a major source of iron in the USA. Some mines nearby still produce taconite, which is shipped by rail from the processing site south of Ishpeming to Marquette, and from there by freighter to the steel mills of the Midwest, on the southern shores of the Great Lakes.
