Mill Creek Power Plant, Kentucky
Mill Creek Power Plant is located near Louisville, Kentucky in southwestern Jefferson County, adjacent to the Ohio River. The plant is home to four coal-fired units whose gross combined output capacity is 1,608MW. Units 1, 2, 3, and 4 became operational in 1972, 1974, 1978, and 1982 respectively. The plant is operated by Louisville Gas & Electric, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation. Although the Ohio River was the initial source of the plant's cooling water, Units 2, 3, and 4 were subsequently outfitted with mechanical draft cooling towers.
