Mojave Airport, California
Image

A former World War II airfield with interesting and unusual features. It is a center for civilian aviation R&D, an aircraft storage and scrapyard, a busy film site, and home of the National Test Pilot School, the world's largest civilian test pilot school. BAE, Northrop-Grumman, and Scaled Composites are some of the aerospace companies with facilities here. The first civilian aircraft to make it into space was built and tested here–now the Airport is a civilian spaceport. Commercial carriers store surplus airliners here, and there are often many airplanes waiting to be sold, fixed, or reused.
