Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport, Washington

Part of a network of sites that are associated with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) based in Newport, Rhode Island, NUWC Keyport is an industrial military compound north of Bremerton, employing around 1,500 people. The NUWC is a major R&D and test and evaluation facility for naval warfare systems, especially those related to submarine warfare, torpedoes, and mines. Keyport manages several large "three-dimensional" underwater test ranges, two in British Columbia, and two off Washington's shores (at Dabob Bay, near Subbase Bangor, and near Destruction Island, on the central coast). Just outside the gates of the Station is the unusual Naval Undersea Museum, open to the public.
