Oak Grove Power Plant, Texas

Oak Grove Power Plant is located north of Franklin, Texas, adjacent to the Twin Oaks Reservoir, the source of its cooling water. The plant is home to two coal-fired units, whose combined nameplate output capacity is 1,794MW. It became fully operational in 2011. Just north of the plant is the Kosse Mine, which supplies the plant with lignite (the lowest grade of coal, due in part to its low calorific value). Both the Oak Grove plant and the Kosse Mine are owned by Luminant, a subsidiary of Vistra Energy. 22 miles northeast is the Limestone Power Plant, built in the 1980s, another large plant which also uses local lignite mines as its source.
