Omega Protein Plant Port of Reedville, Virginia

The Omega Protein Company harvests 90% of the Menhaden fish taken from US waters, turning it into food ingredients, oils, and supplements for humans and animals. It is the largest fish processing facility in the Port of Reedville, Virginia, which is sometimes ranked as the largest East Coast fishing port, measured by weight of its catch, and even as the second largest fishing port in the USA, following Dutch Harbor, Alaska. This is more a reflection of the state of American fisheries, than it is a size of this port. While Americans eat around 16 pounds of seafood per person per year, more than 85% of it is imported (though some of it is actually exported from the US, processed elsewhere, and then re-imported).  The vast majority of fish from domestic companies comes from Dutch Harbor.
