One Wilshire, California

One Wilshire is an office building in downtown Los Angeles which has become one of the most connected buildings in the nation. It is the foremost telco hotel in the city, connected to fiber backbone, and transpacific cables. It was part of MAE-West, an important early internet public peering exchange, and connected to the Market Post Tower building in San Jose, which for a time was owned by the same company (Carlyle Group). Cable comes from under the street into closets in the parking garage, then up to the 4th floor Meet Me Room. The Meet Me Room is where the primary fiber optic cables are routed, split, and shared, and, due to the access to so many major telco cables in the room, rackspace is of high value. Cables run through the vertical risers, elevator shafts, and stairwells to other floors, where more server rackspace is operated by private companies.
