OxyChemical Muscle Shoals Plant, Alabama

OxyChem (the chemical division of Occidental Petroleum), continues to produce both potassium carbonate and potassium bicarbonate at a separate facility on the site of the old chor-alkali plant. This was part of a much larger chemical plant that produced chlorine, fertilizer components, and potassium hydroxide, which are used in products such as detergents, plastics, alkaline batteries, and pharmaceuticals, most of which stopped in 2008. It is part of a large industrial area around the former Muscle Shoals fertilizer and chemical weapons plant that used to operate here.
