Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado
Home of headquarters for NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), and the administrative headquarters for the notorious underground command center in nearby Cheyenne Mountain. The network of radar sites across the continent, such as the PAVE-PAWS antennas found in Alaska, Cape Cod, and Northern California; the North Warning System (NWS) - the successor to the DEW line - with stations in Canada and Alaska, as well as three select GEODSS (Ground-Based Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance) sites, which collectively track all aircraft, spacecraft, and space debris moving towards or over the North American continent (including that from deep space), send their data to Petersen AFB/Cheyenne Mountain AFS for analysis. Peterson has 1,176 acres and around 6,000 military personnel working on communication, security, logistics, and intelligence programs, and is also associated with nearby Schriever Air Force Base, which controls the nation's GPS system. Peterson is located on the north end of Colorado Springs Airport, and east of the Army's big base at Fort Carson.
