Phoenix Directional Sign, Arizona

A directional sign for pilots points the way to town, built by Boy Scouts in the 1950s, during the ascendancy of Phoenix into a city propelled by aviation. Construction is said to have taken place over five years. The letters are 100 feet high and 12 feet wide. Located next to the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club shooting range, on Usery Mountain.
