Pine Bend Refinery, Minnesota

This is one of two oil refineries in Minnesota, both located along the Mississippi River industrial area south of the Twin Cities, which collectively produce around 70% of the gasoline consumed in the state. Pine Bend is the larger of the two, with a capacity of around 320,000 barrels per day. It was built in 1955, and is now owned by Flint Hills Resources, which is a division of Koch Industries. Koch operates the pipeline that brings crude oil to the plant, most of which comes from the oil sands of Alberta.
