Portage Power Plant, Wisconsin

The Portage Power Plant, is located near Pardeeville, Wisconsin, adjacent to Lake Columbia, a 400-acre artificial lake which is the source of its cooling water. Water is fed into the lake from the nearby Wisconsin River. The plant is home to two coal-fired units, whose nameplate output capacity is 1,023MW. It became fully operational in 1978. The plant's coal comes from the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana. The plant is co-owned by Madison Gas and Electric, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, and Wisconsin Power and Light Corporation, a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation.
