Rainbow Dam, Montana

The Rainbow Dam is one of a few dams along the Missouri River near the city of Great Falls. Built in 1910, this low (29 feet high) and long (1,055 feet wide) dam is immediately upstream of Rainbow Falls (the third of the five “Great Falls of the Missouri”), which are rendered somewhat less spectacular than the dam above it, which holds back most of the water, and diverts some of it through a canal to a power plant, half a mile downstream.
