Red Dog Mine, Alaska

One of the largest zinc mines in the world, located in northwest Alaska. Over $500 million has been invested to extract 85 million tons of lead and zinc ore. The facilities include a storage shed that is the largest building north of the arctic circle. Although the land upon which the remote mine sits is owned by the Northwest Alaska Native Association, it is operated by a Canadian company called Teck Resources Limited.
