Roanoke Rapids Kraft Paper Mill, North Carolina

The Roanoke Rapids Paper Mill primarily makes kraft paper of the type used in shopping bags. The plant is one of more than a dozen in the USA owned by WestRock Paper. WestRock, based in Norcross, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, was formed by the merger of two other large paper companies, RockTenn and MeadWestvaco, in 2015 (two companies that, as their names suggest, were also formed by mergers). The company specializes in food packaging, including pizza boxes, as well as paper for labels, leaflets, and inserts. It is one of the five largest paper companies in the USA, and has more than 10% of the market.
