Roosevelt Roads Naval Station Site, Puerto Rico, US Territories
Roosevelt Roads Naval Station is a recently closed naval base on the eastern end of the main island of Puerto Rico. Since Puerto Rico became a US possession following the Spanish American War in 1889, it has served as a major site for the US military in the Caribbean, with as many as 25 separate installations over the years. Though most have been closed, small outposts such as radar stations and National Guard facilities remain. The largest facility was Roosevelt Roads, a navy base which was mostly closed in 2004, along with the Vieques Training Range, which was associated with it.
