Rooseveltown GM Plant Site, New York

The General Motors Plant, on the east side of the bridge approach over the St. Lawrence River at Rooseveltown, was part of an industrial area created to consume power produced by the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project, and to provide jobs for this remote region of New York, north of the Adirondacks. The plant was closed in 2008 and subsequently torn down. EPA-mandated remediation efforts are ongoing. On the west side of the bridge approach is a major Alcoa aluminum plant, which was closed in 2015.
