Safeway Tracy Distribution Center, California

Safeway is one of the largest grocery chains in the country, with around 1,500 stores, including Vons, Carrs, and Pavilions markets. One of its largest distribution warehouses is in Tracy, California, in the Central Valley east of the San Francisco Bay. The company is headquartered nearby in Pleasanton, and has more than $40 billion in annual revenue. The Tracy Distribution Center is in an inexpensive agricultural area, but close enough to the San Francisco Bay Area markets, 20 miles west over the hills. It is becoming a major warehouse hub for the region. Next to Safeway is Costco's regional warehouse (a warehouse for a warehouse store chain), and its meat plant. Also here is a new Fedex Ground hub, a huge Adesa car auction yard, and several other fulfillment and distribution warehouses.
