Seacoast Weathering Station at Point Judith, Rhode Island

Well within sight of the Point Judith Lighthouse, this corrosion testing facility has been operated by aluminum producer Alcoa Corporation for decades. Samples of various materials such as metals, plastics, ceramics, etc., are attached to 45-degree angled racks and then left to weather for extended periods of time. The site's proximity to the ocean guarantees that all test materials will be subject to the corrosive effects of salt-laden air and fog, in addition to prevailing meteorological conditions.
