Seaway Bridge, New York

The Seaway bridge is the easternmost of the 13 road bridges connecting the US and Canada over the 1,300 miles of watery boundary between the two countries, in the Great Lakes region. It connects Roosevelttown, New York, with Cornwall, Ontario. The international boundary passes through the southern span of the bridge, before it lands on Cornwall Island. Cornwall Island is part of the Akwesasne Indian Reservation. After landing on the island, the highway passes through an abandoned border crossing Point of Entry booth. This facility was forced to be abandoned, and a new bridge and border crossing established off the reservation, due to the tribe’s resistance to having armed Canadian border agents on their tribal lands.
