Silver Lakes, California

Silver Lakes is a large housing development near Helendale, next to the Mojave River, where two artificial lakes contain numerous bulldozed peninsulas and inlets, maximizing the number of house lots with shore frontage. Like many of the artificial lakes in the desert, the stagnant water at Silver Lakes had micro-organisms that made bathing unpleasant.
