Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine

This summer art school started in 1946, and is administered from New York City. It continues today as an art program run primarily by artists for artists, and has seen many famous artists over the years. Located on over 350 bucolic acres in Maine, the program is part retreat and part school, but is mostly about creating an energizing community of 65 selected artists, along with visiting artists and faculty, over a nine week program, every summer. Maine has more vacation and secondary homes than any other state, and many Maine summers are enjoyed by New Yorkers.
