Slater Mill Historic Site, Rhode Island

Built along the banks of the Blackstone River's Pawtucket Falls in 1793, the Slater Mill was the first water-powered cotton-spinning mill in the country, ushering in the American Industrial Revolution. The original mill as designed by English immigrant Samuel Slater was modest in size, but was expanded several times over the next hundred years, remaining in operation until 1895. In 2014, the Slater Mill became part of the Blackstone River National Park. In 2021, the site was officially transferred to the National Park Service, who are now responsible for its upkeep and management. The mill now functions as a museum, with various textile-spinning machines on display.
