Smoky Hill Air National Guard Range , Kansas

This 34,000-acre target range, ten miles southwest of Salina, is one of three Air National Guard air-to-ground training ranges in the Midwest. It has a few circular targets, strafing ranges, and numerous tactical targets made out of shipping containers and old military vehicles, which is typical. The range started as an army training base known as Camp Phillips, in WWII. After the war it was operated by the Air Force until 1973, when it was transferred to the Kansas Air National Guard.
