South Texas Nuclear Power Plant, Texas
South Texas Nuclear Power Plant (also known as South Texas Project Electric Generating Station), is located near Bay City, Texas, adjacent to a 7,000-acre reservoir from which it draws its cooling water. (The reservoir in turn draws its water from the Colorado River.) South Texas Project was the first nuclear power plant to be built in the state, and is home to two pressurized water reactors. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 have operating capacities of 1,280MW. Unit 1's operating license was issued in 1988, while Unit 2's operating license was issued in 1989. The plant is operated by South Texas Project Nuclear Operating Company.
