Spruce Goose Hangar, California
The Spruce Goose was the largest airplane in the world from 1947-1952, when it was surpassed by the B-52. Unlike those mass production planes, only one Spruce Goose was made, and the 225,000 square foot hangar it was made in was part of Howard Hughes’ old airport in Culver City. Most of the airport site has been redeveloped into residential and tech company space. The hangar has been used for years as a movie production center (for big films like Titanic) and is now owned by Google, which uses some of the site for YouTube video production. The Spruce Goose for many years was in a museum hangar next to the Queen Mary at Long Beach Harbor, but now lives in a museum in Oregon.
