St. Lucie Nuclear Plant, Florida
The St. Lucie Nuclear Plant is located on Hutchinson Island, a narrow barrier island along the state's eastern coast, near Port St. Lucie. It has two pressurized water reactors, and does not have cooling towers, as it draws its cooling water directly from the Atlantic Ocean. Both Unit 1and Unit 2 have output capacities of around 1,000MW. Unit 1's operating license was issued in 1976, while Unit 2's operating license was issued in 1983. It is operated by Florida Power and Light, and has been licensed to operate until 2043.
