St. Paul Park Refinery, Minnesota
This is one of two oil refineries in Minnesota, both located along the Mississippi River industrial area south of the Twin Cities. This refinery opened in 1939, and has been operated by many companies over the years, including Marathon, Northern Tier, and Western Refining. Western Refining was purchased by Tesoro, the nation’s largest refiner, in 2017, which changed its name to Andeavor, before that company was bought by Marathon, which is now the nation’s largest refiner. This refinery is relatively small, with a production capacity just over 100,000 barrels per day.
