Stack Island, Mississippi
The muddy channel of the Mississippi River has many oxbows, cut-offs, and low islands, formed by siltation and meandering. One such form in the vague and changing river course is Stack Island, which is the subject of an on-going boundary dispute between Mississippi and Louisiana. Both states claim this 2,000-acre island (which is privately owned) on the Mississippi River as theirs, though a recent Supreme Court decided in Mississippi's favor, perhaps resolving the long dispute.
